Easy to Follow Jordan Itinerary and Expenses

Jordan is a very good choice for a short vacation especially if you're an expat living in Dubai. We from feeblefeet made this easy to follow Jordan itinerary and expenses especially for expats like us who are currently working in Dubai and is trying to maximize our limited vacation time but can also be used by any tourist who are coming to Dubai and would want to travel to Jordan with Dubai as their starting point.

To start: Our own Itinerary

Thursday: Arrival in Jordan

  • 4:30 am - Arrival at the airport (DXB International Airport Terminal 1)
  • 7:00 am to 9:00 am(one hour difference from Dubai) - Flight to Amman(Queen Alia International Airport)
  • 10:00 am to 10:45 am - Immigration and Visa Stamping (Visa upon arrival)
  • 10:45 am to 11:25 am - Travel from Airport to Madaba
    • Stayed at Moab Land Hotel
  • 11:25 am to 11:45 am - Check in and Preparation for the day trip to Mount Nebo and Dead Sea
  • 11:45 am to 12:30 pm - Checked the St George Church(Madaba Mosaic)
  • 12:30 pm to 1:10 pm - Traveled to Mount Nebo
    • Arranged a private tour with the hotel
    • Travel time should be around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic
    • Went to buy food first(lunch - Shawarma and Burger)
  • 1:10 pm to 2:10 pm - Tour of Mount Nebo
  • 2:10 pm to 2:45 pm - Travel time to Dead Sea, Jordan
    • Amman Beach Resort
  • 2:45 pm to 4:00 pm - Swimming at the Dead Sea and the resort swimming pool
  • 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Travel back to Hotel
    • Went to buy souvenir at a nearby shop
  • 5:00 pm onwards - Free Time

You can include more site to visit during your way from mount Nebo to Dead Sea but we chose to preserve our strength and focus on those two sites only. The rest of places you can visit:

  • Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration
  • Mukawir
  • Hammamat Ma'in
  • Umm Ar-Rasas

You can also choose to go straight to Bethany on the same day.

Friday: Trip to Petra

  • 6:00 am to 7: am - Breakfast and Preparation for Check - out
    • We did an early check out to get to Wadi Musa as early as we can.
  • 7:00 am to 11:00 am - Travel from Madaba to Wadi Musa via the Desert Highway
    • You can opt to take the King's Highway as an alternative
    • Travel time depends on the number of stops you take
  • 11:00 am to 11:20 am - Check in and Preparation for Petra Exploration
    • Stayed at Al Anbat Midtown Hotel II
  • 11:30 am to 12:30 pm - Lunch
    • Around Wadi Musa(Biryani and Lamb Kebab)
  • 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm - Explore Petra
    • You can rent a horse or a carriage for faster exploration
    • We walked only up to the Amphitheatre
    • 8 kilometers up to the Monastery (according to the Map)
  • 4:00 pm onwards - Free Time

If you plan to go to Amman after your Petra tour, it is best to adjust your time to until 3:00 pm as the last bus from Wadi Musa goes around 4:00 pm. If you plan to stay, you can take a night tour of Petra as well, just check on the ticketing booth for the ticket price. Night tour starts around 6 pm.

You can also arrange your tour to go via the King's Highway on your way to Wadi Musa. King's highway has lots of historical ruins and old buildings that you can explore on your way to Wadi Musa. Estimated time is around 7 hours.

You can proceed with the Wadi Rum tour as well but it is recommended to give one day for Petra.

Saturday: Commute to Amman

  • 7:00 am to 8:00 am - Breakfast
  • 8:00 am to 9:00 am - Preparation and Check - out
  • 9:00 am to 1:00 pm - Travel from Wadi Musa Bus station to Amman Bus station via Desert Highway
    • Includes waiting time for the bus to be filled with passengers
    • No exact time of departure
    • Walking distance from Al Anbat Midtown Hotel
  • 1:00 pm to 1:20 pm - Taxi ride from Bus station to Downtown Amman
    • Upon arrival at the bus station there will be cab drivers willing to bring you to your arranged accomodation
    • Make sure to take metered taxi or make it clear how much you need to pay before riding the taxi.
  • 1:20 pm to 1:30 pm - Check in
    • Stayed at New Park Hotel
  • 1:30 pm to 1:40 pm - Taxi ride to Abdali Mall
  • 1:40 pm to 2:30 pm - Lunch
    • Abdali Mall(Mcdonalds)
  • 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm - Roam around Abdali Mall and the Boulevard Amman
  • 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Dinner and souvenir buying
    • Lots of souvenir shops at downtown Amman
  • 7:00 pm onwards - Free time

Three options to go to Amman

  • Jet Bus - Scheduled trips. For the timings please check Jet Bus website
  • Private Car - You can arrange this with your hotel. Most convenient and you can also choose to take King's Highway if you have not tried from Madaba to Wadi Musa on the second day.
  • Local Bus - cheapest option. Local bus is fine especially if you're on a budget.

Downtown Amman is very busy, allot some time for the traffic especially at rush hours. Souvenir shops, restaurants and cafeterias are abundant around the place as well.

You can include a trip to Jerash from Amman. Travel time is approximately 45 minutes. Known for its Greco-Roman sites.

Sunday : Amman Citadel and Roman Theatre

  • 7:00 am to 8:00 am - Breakfast
  • 8:00 am to 9:00 am - Preparations and Explore Amman Citadel
    • From New Park Hotel 10 minute walk to the Citadel
  • 9:00 am to 10:00 am - Amman Citadel tour
  • 10:00 am to 10:10 am - Walk to Roman Theatre
  • 10:10 to 11:10 am - Roman Theatre tour
  • 11:10 am to 11:30 am - Souvenir shopping
  • 11:30 am to 11:50 am - Taxi ride back to the hotel
  • 11:50 am to 12:20 pm - Check - out
  • 12:20 to 1:00 pm - Travel time from Hotel to Queen Alia Airport(Amman Airport)
    • Allot time for the traffic. Approximately 40 to 45 minutes to the airport but could be longer depending on the traffic.
  • 4:40 pm to 9:00 pm - Travel from Jordan to Dubai

You can change your last half day to explore a different side of the city depending on which place you want to see.

Alternate route is from Dubai to Aqaba. This airport will be near Petra and Wadi Rum, so  you can adjust which places to visit first. We would advise to allot one day in Petra and Amman. You can also stay for more than 4 days to be able to visit more of the places in Jordan.
